Files app on my iPad folders have dissappeared

I’ve somehow lost some folders and hundreds of files under the on my iPad section on my iPad. They were there a week ago but have now gone. Is there a way of recovering them? Could I restore the complete backups from a previous weekly iCloud backup? If so does this impact anything else, I’m mainly worried about losing photos if I did this.

I know I should have put the folders/files in the iCloud Drive but that’s a lesson learnt for me.

any help or advice appreciated.

Restoring an iCloud or iTunes backup is all or nothing. Whether or not your Photos will be affected by restoring your backup will be determined by your iCloud settings…

Review:

Settings > [Your Name / AppleID] > iCloud > Photos > iCloud Photos

1) If Photos in iCloud is enabled, your Photos are already stored in iCloud - and are not included in your iCloud/iTunes backup. Restoring your backup will not affect your Photos.

2) If Photos in iCloud is disabled, your Photos are included in your iCloud/iTunes backup. Restoring your backup will replace your locally stored Photos.
