Cannot access account recovery

Hey,I have being trying to get my mums iPad sorted for a couple days now.She and I have forgotten her password,need to enter it on my iPad Air so I can family share the Apple TV+ subscription to her iPad.I think I need to go down the route of account recovery in the settings menu.I cannot access the account recovery cause a pop-up comes up to say “please enter password for this Apple ID “which I cannot do.Would this be cause I have tried to remember her password with unsuccessful attempts.I do not want to shut down the iPad and when I turn it on(the pop up might come up again)to enter the password and then she cannot use the iPad at all for browsing,emails and watching tv etc.
