Cannot find downloaded email

Wife's email shows 172 downloaded emails, but those emails are nowhere to be found in her mailbox.

Where can I find those emails?

iMac (24-inch, M1, 2021, 2 ports)

Have you checked the website? They should still be there if they weren't deleted. Even then, they may still be in the site's trash can.
