Family Sharing - "There was an error"

Hi. I'm trying to set up my 11y old child ID in Family Sharing. After entered credit card#, pop up says "there was an error. please try again". Tried to turn off/on, different credit card, didn't work. It's been 3 days. Pls help! Tx!

Ugh, one of those uninformative messages.


Try signing out of your account and back in again.


Try restarting your device.


Contact Apple and ask if they can tell you what this means, particularly if you see it repeatedly over a day or so:


Click here --> Choose your country or region - Official Apple Support Select your country, then a product. If you don't see one that handles your issue then keep experimenting with selections until you reach one that gets you a chat session or a telephone call and get the representative to redirect you.

Click here --> Contact Apple for support and service - Apple Support

If you are trying to enter CC information on the child’s account, that won’t work. The Family Organizer pays for all purchases unless the family members redeem Apple Gift cards. When using Family Sharing, each member’s Apple ID balance will be hit for purchases before the organizer’s card is charged.


Are you trying to enter the card info on the child’s account?
