Typically thumb drive hold small amount of data compared to your internal SSD storage volume...


and it is usually recommend that the external TM drive to be at least 3x the capacity as your internal drive


The main advantage of TM is that it creates recursive backups—enabling you to restore a specific file or the entire drive— from a certain point in time.


Typically USB thumbdrives are slow r/w...


Typically the thumbdrives are more prone to corruption or failure...


but sure you can try it.

More than one device, more than one backup methodology.
