Drag and Drop the URL in Safari is gone... kind of... can we have it back somehow?

Ok, so for years, I used to drag and drop interesting urls straight from the address bar to my bookmark folders, which are usually displayed in the side bar.

But in the recent Safari version this is not possible - or not fully. Funny, it only works like it used to when you have ONE tab opened. Then, the site icon (first element of the address bar) remains intact, and you can drag it and drop to bookmarks. But if you open more tabs, the icons turn into X when mouse-overed and you can not drag it - just click and close the tab. It makes sense when you want to close couple of tabs quickly, but for adding the url to bookmarks you now have to go through a lot of clicking instead (click the (...) button, select folder, confirm...) Draging was way more natural and easy, Is there any way of restoring this functionality ??
