I received several photo via iMessage but I can’t download it

It shows just one picture and it says “54 item” on the top

How much storage space do you have left on your iPhone? To find out, open Settings ➡️ General ➡️ iPhone Storage: Here, you will see the results at the top portion of the page. You may not have enough storage space left on your iPhone XR to download the images that are shared with you via iCloud.
