How to total parts a column

I wish to total a column but only include some of the values in that column based on the content of an adjacent column.


In the example below, I only wish to total George's lollies.



The thing is, I need the total to change if the names change.


Also, should it be relevant, the Child column is a column of formulae itself, not text.

SUMIF and SUMIFS are your friend here. You can find out more about them and other functions at Help > Formulas and Functions Help in your menu.


You can try something like this:



In B9:

=SUMIF(A,A$9,B)



Note that row 9 is defined as a Footer Row so you can have a formula in the same column that refers to all the body cells above it.


The total will change when you add rows, or change the name in A9.


(Substitute ; for , in the formula if your region uses , as a decimal separator.)
