I'm trying to set up AirPlay for my home audio system that has an external DAC which connects to my amplifier.
Can I connect my Airport Express 2nd Generation to my DAC via HDMI 2.1 cable?
I know of the 3.5mm-Toslink option but I do not have such cable but have a HDMI 2.1 cable ready.

Which means if I want to use Airplay into my external DAC with HDMI, Apple TV can be an option but not Airport Express.
be mind ful people have had issues getting appletvs to act as just airplay music speakers, seems it somehow never fully start if it does not see a tv connected not sure if your DAC could fool it
Just curious, but did you not find the AirPort Express base station's built-in DAC adequate?

Honestly, have not tried using the built-in DAC of the Airport Express, but I like to use my Chord Electronics 2Qute.
