How do see all the pictures contained in all past messages . There was a summary screen where you could offload the pictures.
the screen that allowed the acces also had “collaboration” and some other groupings

You can view photos that were shared with you through the actions outlined in this article:
View photos and videos shared with you on iPhone
You can also tap Library, then tap All Photos to see photos and videos shared with you in Messages. These photos and videos have a chat bubble in the bottom-left corner of the thumbnail. Tap the thumbnail to share the photo or video, save it to your library, or delete it. To hide photos and videos shared with you in Messages, tap 
, then tap Your Photos Only."

Use Messages on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support -- This section of the article provides the steps to locate photos and files that were shared with you via the Messages app:
Find attachments from a conversation
1. Open the message.
2. Tap the name of the contact at the top of the message. If you're using iOS 14 or earlier, or iPadOS, tap the Info button.
3. You'll see Photos and Links. Touch and hold an image or attachment to show options like Save, Copy, Share, and Delete.

opklee, since this option is no longer available in the Messages app, you can let Apple know. Apple does appreciate all feedback regarding their products, services, and features. This is the not the solution. The menu / settings screen I was on showed a summary of all the pictures in text strings. It allowed you to select / delete pics from entire conversations. All conversations were visible by scrolling
Try:
Settings, >General, >iPhone Storage
After it populates, click on Messages and then Photos
I believe that this is what you're looking for.

I am looking for the pictures in texts sent or received. There was a screen that summarizes all the pictures and allowed for easy deletions
Your phone is hacked. Whoever is doing that probably has complete control of all of your decides.
That a ridiculous comment. The menu came up after an update was done as a cleanup measure
The option just came up after most recent upgrade so it has to still be available. That was just an easy answer
