Sharing URLs using Mail

As long as I have the Chrome Browser on my laptop, (not designated as main browser though), when I share a URL by email, it defaults to Google Mail! It used to default to Mail. I have not changed my preferences for having Safari as my default browser. If I want it to default to Mail for sharing, I have to trash Chrome on my laptop, which I don't want to do because I administer some gmail accounts commercially for a living and accessing them is much easier using Chrome. What has changed and what can I do?
