Macbook pro running ventura doesn't recognize Apple USB superdrive DVD player

My MacBook Pro that I just upgraded to Ventura no longer recognizes my relatively new external Apple USB SuperDrive DVD player. When I plug the player in, a small notice flashes for a fraction of a second—too fast to read—then disappears. I don't know if this is related to the upgrade or not. It also makes no difference if the DVD player app is turned on or off. Any ideas?

Sorry, everyone. I'd forgotten the first rule of troubleshooting: RESTART! It's now working fine.
