Is there a way to shorten list of previous directories when right-click on Finder icon?

Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click General.
look for "Recent items" select/choose desired lower value.
If it didn't take immediate effect try logoff & login to check.

Ah ha! No replies. Only been a few hours, but ... experience, which is no predictor of the future, anecdotally says, no answer = cannot be done. We shall see.
You'd think I would recall setting the number to 50, but I did not. Thank you, problem solved.
