If you’d like to update your iPhone it still needs to be supported for current updates by Apple, if it is then go to settings>general>software update then click download on the update. Note you do need atleast 50% battery to update your Apple device. Thanks for the answer, hope this helps!

The iPhone 7 is not compatible with iOS 16.

That model can be updated to iOS 15.7.1, no further.
