Can I delete text messages on my iPad without deleting them on my iPhone or other devices? I’m trying to free up storage on my iPad.

Can I delete text messages on my iPad without deleting them on my iPhone or other devices? I’m trying to free up storage on my iPad.

To delete messages on your iPad without deleting them on other devices, ensure that you have first disabled Messages in iCloud - as otherwise deletion will occur on all other devices:
iOS/iPadOS15 and earlier
Settings > [Your Name / AppleID] > iCloud > Messages - set to OFF
iOS/iPadOS16
Settings > [Your Name / AppleID] > iCloud > [Apps Using iCloud] Show All > Messages > Sync this iPad - set to OFF
