contacts lost from mac sync (please help)

Back a few months ago I sync'd my iphone contacts onto my mac. Now, a few months later, I have some new contacts and decided to update my mac's contacts.

However, I accidentally moved my mac's contacts (from before) onto my new iphone contacts, so I lost all my new iphone contacts. Also.. it deleted some of my main ones that were never touched ie. my mom, some close friends....

How can I restore my iphone contacts? Is there a way I can undo everything like I never hit sync without using icloud?

Hello allenp1688,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities!

We want to help you recover these missing contacts.

You can login to iCloud to see if your contacts are there. Or if needed, see if they can be recovered here:

"Restore your contacts or bookmarks from an earlier version

  1. Sign in to iCloud.com.
  2. Scroll down to the bottom of the window, then select Data Recovery.
  3. Select Restore Contacts or Restore Bookmarks.
  4. Select Restore next to the date before you deleted the content.
  5. Select Restore again to confirm. After the restore completes, you get a notification on iCloud.com and an email at the address on file with your Apple ID."

If you're not using iCloud for your contacts, were they only syncing from your Mac? Are you using another service besides iCloud to store the contacts? Do you have a backup from your iPhone from when you had the contacts?

We hope this helps to isolate the issue so you can get these contacts back on your iPhone.

Cheers!
