ipod library deleted

When syncing new music files to ipod, the synced tunes end up on the ipod but all the rest are deleted. This has happened four times this week. I can resync all the music files from my pc but I need to know what I am doing wrong when syncing a few files to ipod.

Hi babblon,

When you sync your iPod with iTunes, all content that you want on your iPod should be selected. Any unselected songs or content that is already on your iPod will be removed. The following from Use iTunes to sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod with your computer - Apple Support may help to explain how content is erased from your iPod.

"Sync or remove content using iTunes

  1. Open iTunes and connect your device to your computer with a USB cable.
  2. Click the device icon in the upper-left corner of the iTunes window. Learn what to do if you don't see the icon
  3. From the list under Settings on the left side of the iTunes window, click the type of content that you want to sync or remove.* To turn syncing on for a content type, select the checkbox next to Sync.
  4. Select the checkbox next to each item that you want to sync.
  5. Click the Apply button in the lower-right corner of the window. If syncing doesn't start automatically, click the Sync button."

Take care.

Hi babblon,

Thanks for contacting Apple Support Communities!

We understand that when you sync new content to your iPod, the previous content is no longer available on your iPod, correct?

Do you use Sync Library? This article explains what Sync Library is and what it does: If songs are missing from your music library after you turn on Sync Library - Apple Support

You can also reference this link which explains how to sync content with your iPod via your computer: Sync iPod touch with your computer - Apple Support

"Sync iPod touch with your computer

You can use iCloud to automatically keep your photos, files, calendar, and more updated across all your devices where you’re signed in with your Apple ID. (You can even use a Windows PC to access your iCloud data on iCloud.com.) Other services like Apple Music allow you to access additional content across all of your devices. With iCloud and services like Apple Music, no syncing is required.

If you don’t want to use iCloud or other services, you can connect iPod touch to your Mac or Windows PC to sync the following items:

  • Albums, songs, playlists, movies, TV shows, podcasts, books, and audiobooks

  • Photos and videos

  • Contacts and calendars

With syncing, you can keep these items up to date between your computer and your iPod touch.

Note: If you use iCloud or other services like Apple Music, options for syncing with your computer might not be available."

We hope this helps.

Cheers!
