Contacts template: "birthday" option is greyed out

Have been having trouble with Contacts on my iPhone 13 (software is up to date) and Mac (Monterey 12.6.1) in general. Today, I noticed birthdays are missing. I went to the template to see what happened, and I see the 'birthday' field greyed out, preventing me from adding it to my contact entries. Please see screen shot. Thank you!

Hello vjohnso,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

This may help:

"Add birthdays to Contacts on Mac

You can add a birthday to a contact’s card, including birthdays based on a lunar calendar (such as the Chinese, Hebrew, or Islamic lunar calendars).

  1. In the Contacts app  on your Mac, select a contact.
  2. Click the Add button , then choose Birthday, or choose More Fields, then Lunar Birthday.

If an option is dimmed, it’s already on the card.

3.Enter the date, then click Done."

More details can be found here: Add birthdays to Contacts on Mac

Are you able to add the Birthday on existing contacts? Also, are you syncing your contacts via iCloud?

Cheers!
