why can I not update my macbook any higher than macOS Catalina 10.15.7?

Why can I not update my macBook any higher than macOS Catalina 10.15.7? In order to download Microsoft 365 from my university for grad school, I must have 11 or higher.


Specs:

MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012)

Memory: 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15

The short answer is, because a 2012 MacBook Pro doesn't have the hardware to support Big Sur 11.0 or later.
