My iPhone 6S indicates it’s updated to IOS 15.7.1. I’m trying to update my Apple Watch series 7. When I go to the update on my iPhone I get the message “to update the software on your Apple Watch you first need to update the software on your iPhone”. I checked again and my phone is updated to IOS15.7.1. ?

Watch OS9 requires iOS16. If you ever did manage to update the Watch to OS9 you would need a new iPhone (8 or later)
