Why is it saying my SIM card is not supported. Is mg iPhone locked?

It means that the phone is locked to a carrier, and the SIM card you inserted is not for the carrier it is locked to. You need to contact the carrier the phone is locked to and ask about their unlocking policy→How to unlock your iPhone for use with a different carrier - Apple Support
