One of two Display on thunderbolt 3 dock connected to M1 Max is not showing

Hi,

I have a MacBook Pro M1 Max connected to a Thunderbolt 3 dock station (via the thunderbolt 4 port on the Mac ) where 2 displays are connected on via DisplayPort (1920 x 1080).

But only 1 display is working while M1 Max is supposed to support three external display.

Does anyone have an idea why ?

Do the screens have to be connected on a separate port on the Mac directly ?

Thanks,

MacBook Pro Apple Silicon

The MAC only supports multiple displays on one cable when that genuine ThunderBolt cable is connected to a genuine Thunderbolt device (Dock or Display) as the first device.

In my opinion, that Dock is mostly a USB-C Dock, with some available ThunderBolt features available when running selected Windows Drivers.

Hi biglab2,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. Some guidance to help you with this external display issue can be found in the Apple Support article: If your external display isn't detected or appears blurry when connected to your Mac

If your display is blank or not detected
Try these steps if you don't see an image on your display.
Check your cable or adapter
Disconnect the cable from your external display from your Mac, then reconnect it. If the cable from your external display doesn't connect to the ports on your Mac, you can use a USB-C or Thunderbolt adapter. If you're using a USB-C or Thunderbolt adapter to connect a display, the adapter must be compliant with DisplayPort Alt Mode or Thunderbolt / USB 4.
Check how many displays you can connect
If you're connecting multiple displays to your Mac, use the Tech Specs page to find out how many external displays your Mac supports.
1.Choose Apple menu  > About This Mac, double-click your serial number, then press Command-C to copy it.
2.Go to the Tech Specs page, click the Search Tech Specs bar, press Command-V to enter your computer's serial number, then click Search.
3.Click the specs page for your Mac. The number of displays your Mac supports appears under Video Support or Graphics.

That Dock provide full ThunderBolt support only HP computers, and only running Windows operating system.

MULTI-FUNCTION MODE

The HP Thunderbolt Dock G2 can connect to systems without Thunderbolt™ through multi-function mode.

There are three main differences between ThunderboltTM mode of the HP Thunderbolt Dock G2 and multi-function mode.

• The ThunderboltTM port on the back of the unit will degrade to USB2 only.

• The ThunderboltTM port is only fully functional with a ThunderboltTM host connected.

• The number of independent video streams is decreased from two DP x4 to one DP x2.

The HP Thunderbolt Dock G2 may require updates to your host platform software or firmware to support the new technologies.
