Unable to update M1 MacBook Air

I am unable to update my wife's M1 MacBook Air. It refuses to accept the password to authenticate the user. The username and password work for all other requirements and the system shows no other anomalies. She is currently running version 12.3.1 (Monterey).

If you are updating the Mac, the Mac will ask for the *administrator password*...this is the password used to login to the Mac when you power it on or when it resumes from sleep. This is different than the Apple ID username and password.
