Safari search bar/tabs bar disappearing

Hi! When I watch a video on Safari on screen on screen mode and exit, when I go back to the page on Safari the video is there but the tabs and search bars are gone. There’s no X to exit the full screen anywhere in the video, and it’s not like I’ve magnified it either. The only options that show up on screen are the three dots that lets me start a new window (that’s not what I want, I want my original tabs and pages) or switching to split screen. Please help! I’m watching a lecture series and it keeps making my tabs disappear/does not allow me to leave the page.
