Change in numbers in parentheses after my iPhone ?

What does the number next to my iPhone which keeps increasing? My iPhone has gone to iPhone 2 to 4 and now 5??

Personalize your iPhone name (i.e. GS iPhone) in Settings>General>About>Name.

When done, restart your device.
