how to update lock screen with no update on ipad 8th gen

the update is compatible with my ipad 8 but i’m seemingly unable to edit/add a new lock screen

Unlike iOS16 for iPhone, iPadOS 16 for iPad does not support lock screen customisation. Likewise, the new active Astronomy and Weather Wallpapers are currently exclusive to iOS16.x for iPhone.

Whether or not these features will ever reach iPadOS is known only to Apple.
