Ability to use IMac retina 5k 27” late 2014 as a monitor for a laptop

Is it possible to use an iMac (retina 5k, 27 inch, late 2014) as a monitor for a laptop computer? It has the Big Sur operating system on it that cannot be updated.

for an older source Mac, yes, but-- this feature is deprecated for source Macs AFTER 2019 models:

  • The iMac used as a display must have macOS High Sierra or earlier installed.
  • The other Mac that you're connecting it to must have been introduced in 2019 or earlier and have macOS Catalina or earlier installed.
