unique dock for each monitor?

I have 2 monitors on my iMac. Can each monitor have its own dock?

Sort of. The same Dock can appear on each display, and each display can have a menubar. The way this evolved is important to understanding the feature.

Mission Control has a feature called 'Spaces', where you can swap a number of different 'Spaces' in and out of the active display. Each 'Space' generally has its own apps, their own active windows. A 'Space' that is not active keeps running.

if you suddenly find yourself with multiple displays, the feature generalizes to "Displays have separate spaces", and you're off.
