iPhone keeps asking to remove and reinsert sim

My mother’s iPhone XR (iOS 16.3) is keeping asking to remove and insert SIM card to keep using the phone with iMessage and Facetime. The device is on the Telia (FI) network and using an eSIM.

I’ve done multiple times the sequence

1. disable iMessage from settings
2. disable Facetime from settings
3. remove eSIM card from settings
4. power off iPhone
5. power on iPhone
6. re-register eSIM card
7. enable Facetime
8. enable iMessage

but the dialog just keeps on reappearing. Checked from General - About and it’s not proposing any carrier updates.

Anything else I can try to do to resolve the issue?
