Watch face static view

When adjusting the color or design of a particular watch face, is there a setting I’m missing to have that look remain when the watch is not “active?” It seems the design changes (color, etc) only are visible when the wrist is lifted or crown is rotated to turn the watch “on.”

Thanks for your response and question.

The images might help. When my wrist is down, it reverts to what I would best describe as a "non-colored" backgound. When I raise the wrist or turn the crown is when it displays the colors and view I set in the Watch app for that particular face. I'm just hoping to always show the "on" view. Is that a thing?
