Bluetooth and USB randomly disconnecting

I’ve seen a few others with this issue but nothing in the way of a solution.

I’m on a Late 2015 Mac, and recently I’ve noticed that my USB Hardrive will improperly eject and my wireless keyboard and mouse will stop working.

I’ve tried to connect a wired mouse and keyboard after it’s happened and they don’t respond, nor does the hard drive reconnect. I don’t get the usual ‘disconnected’ message for the mouse or keyboard though.

However, there is still power going through the USB as I’m able to connect and turn on an LED light that’s connected via USB.

It’s happened around 4 times to me today and the only solution so far is to hard reset with the button on the back. Everything seems to work for a while before disconnecting again.

I’ve rebooted in safe mode, reset the NVRAM, disconnected and repaired the Bluetooth devices whilst it’s working, updated the IOS. Nothing is working.

We'd recommend running diagnostics on your Mac to see if that detects any issues with your USB ports or Bluetooth. This article explains how: Use Apple Diagnostics to test your Mac - Apple Support

Recently had mess of trouble with BlueTooth mouse and keyboard.

Run First Aid for the fun of it, just to get report ...

Move the keyboard away from the computer - might hear a beep

Have you looked at System Preferences for BT - are devices 'connected'

turn on and off - do u get screen message that they aren't connected.

Try to force quite BT- then reset and then simple restart computer

see what happens,

Maybe that Chinese weather balloon messed it up for awhile (-:

Thanks for your reply. I tried this but it found no issues.

I’ve noticed it seems to do it when my external hard drive is connected. It may be a coincidence, but it hasn’t frozen me out (yet) whilst the hard drive isn’t connected.
