Migration from iPhoto to Photos
I have a MacBook Air (running High Sierra) on which I still use iPhoto. I’ve just got a new MacBook Air (running Ventura).
iPhoto obviously doesn’t work on the new computer, but if I try to migrate the iPhoto library to Photos by opening Photos and selecting the library it says the library is not supported and it can only be opened with an operating system of Monterey or earlier.
(I can manually import the photos into Photos but I don’t want to do that and lose the organisation of events etc)
So I think I need to do the migration from iPhoto to Photos on my old computer and then copy the Photos library to the new computer. The problem with this is I have almost no disk space on my old computer so I can’t do the migration.
So I was thinking I should copy the iPhoto library from my old computer to an external hard drive and do the migration to Photos on that external drive. But I don’t know how to do this and how to make sure that Photos creates the migrated library on the external hard drive rather than trying to use the (full) internal drive.
Is anyone able to help, please?
