to connect the superdrive, it needs to be connected directly to the Mac. it will not work if connected through a dock or hub. you need an USB-C to USB Adapter.


but if your backup drive has an USB-C connection, you can use an USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter to connect both the superdrive and the backup disk at the same time. but if your backup drive has only USB connection, then you would need a separate USB-C to USB Adapter to connect it, or use only one or the other at one time.
