Upgrade from High Sierra 10.13.6 to 10.15 ?

I have been informed by Family Tree Maker software that due to an update, my 2011 Macbook Pro, operating on High Sierra 10.13.6 cannot support a link with Ancestry.com and I need to upgrade it to 10.15 or higher. Apple will not support mine anymore as it is classed as Old!

I recently had an upgrade to my hard drive 500gb and memory to 16gb.

It operates beautifully fast with no problems.

Anybody got any suggestions please?

MacBook Pro 2011 (all models) tops out at macOS 10.13 High Sierra, and is not supported with newer macOS.

The path for macOS 10.14 and newer there—macOS 13 Ventura is current—is a newer (used, refurb) or new Mac.

An SSD Mac will be far faster than a model with a hard disk, too.

As a potential alternative to Family Tree Maker…

The Gramps app is free and works and might interest as an alternative, though I don’t know what tie-ins that offers—other than transferring GEDCOM files around, that is. I don’t immediately see an Ancestry tie-in. (Gramps is open-source, which means the data stored in the app is easier to get at, should that become necessary.)

Here is a Reddit Gramps forum and specific r/Gramps genealogy thread that might interest: https://www.reddit.com/r/gramps/comments/iqa16c/ancestry_vs_gramps/
