I have two Messenger icons in my Imac toolbar and when in Launchpad. Only one Messenger App/account. I can get one icon to "jump" in the toolbar but it won't drag into Trash. How do I eliminate the extra icon? I have tried both with the app open and closed but haven't found the magic buttons. Thanks.

You don't mention which version of macOS you are running but go to System Settings/Preferences > Dock & Menu Bar or Desktop & Dock and disable "Show recents applications in Dock".
