i am trying to sign in to my icloud on my 2015 macbook pro running yosemite 10.10.5.
i have changed my password on the macbook which is verified by my phone, but then when i go to log in to my icloud account through settings and icloud the password is not accepted and flashes up red as incorrect password.

If your iCloud account is using two-factor authentication, the entering of the verification code that's received on older macOS versions may vary from newer OS versions.
When receiving the verification code try entering this immediately after the password in the same box, without a space separating the two.

This was the same error you were getting before you changed the password when you tried to sign-in without the code being attached, correct?
The reason we're asking because the issue may be caused by the older macOS and the need for the code to be attached to the password when using two-factor authentication.

thanks for the reply, the two factor authentication isn’t the issue, when I put in the code straight after the password the MacBook accepts this and seems to log in, but then I go to change something in iCloud from the MacBook and I have to confirm my password which the MacBook now flashes up as incorrect, even though moments before it seemingly accepted the very same password when I signed in.
