How do I remove the background in Numbers? It's going to print out with all this colored background snd waste gobs of ink. I can get rid of it by sacrificing alternative row colors, but I don't want to do that.

Click on the background itself (= the canvas).
Do not click on a table or any other object (textbook, …).
Then you will see the menu Sheet>Background.

Click the Sheet name to select the sheet.
Click the Format brush (upper right) to open the format inspector.
Click the Background control to open the color palette.
Click the 'white' rectangle at the left end of the bottom row of the palette.
Done.

HI Kenny,
My bad. After clicking the the Sheet name, you would need to click the V at the right end of the name to open a menu, then choose Show Sheet Options to open the Format inspector showing "Background" as an option.

Instead of going through menus and such you can just click directly on the canvas of a sheet (as opposed to a table, chart or other object on that sheet) and you'll immediately be in the right place in the inspector pane at the right.

There must be a simpler way to do this, however...
Attached is what I get after clicking on the Sheet name and then opening the Format inspector. I do not find background control or background anything in the Format inspector. Up in the main menu there's "Remove Background" under Format > Image, but it's grayed out.
