Based on Personal Experience...

Both Microsoft Office 2008 and 2011 for Mac Home & Student Editions both work for me.

Based on personal experience:

Chat with Microsoft, for Getting an Upgrade:

I chatted with Microsoft and they granted me a free upgrade to Microsoft Office for Mac Home & Business 2021 in exchange for the 2008 version keys that I had (and still have laying about). So, provide them with keys, when chatting.

So, if you have a newer macOS, perform a chat session with a Microsoft Rep, seeing if they’ll grant you the same. This is the link for performing the chat session: Microsoft Contact Us Virtual Agent - Microsoft Support

Important: Just don’t share your screen with the MS Rep, as they’ll have full access to your Hard Drive. They prompt many for that, and it’s quite risky business, indeed.
