Airplay iPad to Apple TV

I often screen mirror from my iPad to my Apple TV and then play video content in VLC, a message would appear on the iPad to let me know the video is playing on the TV, and the video would play out with audio on the Apple TV.

I have just bought a new Apple TV, and have tried to recreate the above, but instead of the video playing out on the Apple TV instead it displays a message advising that "this video is playing on the tv" the same message displayed on the iPad. It is the same if I try and Airplay from my iPhone.

Any ideas?
