Macbook Air Charging

My uncle recently gave me his old macbook air and no store near me has a charger. I was told I can charge it through the Usb-A port on the laptop with the Usb-C plugged into the power point. Will this work for now?

Older Macs do not charge through their USB-A ports.

First Identify your MacBook Air model - Apple Support, find the correct power adapter for it, Identify your Mac power adapter - Apple Support, and then find a source for one.

Apple still sells power adapters for old and discontinued Macs, but you have to determine which one you need.
