Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

"Messages" does not have an "App" button. Can not insert pictures.

There is supposed to be a button to the left of the entry field in iMessage, which I can use to add files/pictures to a message. This button is missing. See the attached screenshot.

There is no "Shared" under Preferences. When I click on Messages, then Preferences, a dialogue opens which just has the tabs "General" and "iMessage". Neither of them has an entry containing the word "Shared".

What version of macOS are you running (see the Apple Menu > About this Mac). On older versions of macOS there is no apps button, you can still copy and paste an image or drag the image file into the compose box to send a picture.
