I would like for my default setting view to be "SONGS" and not as Playlist. How can I make this change permanent?

Whatever you select in the Sidebar is what it will open to until you change it.

click on the playlist and go to view menu on top and View > as Songs.
You can then go to the same menu and show view options and select any number of choices for your columns in the song list.
may have misunderstood what you want.
To just see songs then, dialabrain suggestion is more appropriate.
