This HP printer supports AirPrint, which means macOS, iOS, and iPadOS can and will use the printer drivers embedded directly within the printer. Nothing additional or added is needed. Printers with AirPrint are what you want to buy, as these printers don’t need added drivers.

There’s a firmware update from last year for this HP printer. Make sure that’s installed:

HP would prefer you to load the HP Smart app (that’s the HP driver package), though that’s not necessary here as this printer supports AirPrint. HP Smart also includes lots of background activity doing who-knows-what, based on various system reports that get posted around here.
