What model is iPhone SE (3rd gen?)

I'm trying to get a phone case for a friend. They have an iphone SE. I visited the webpage iPhone SE - Apple (UK)

...involves far too much scrolling to be worth my time, and does not answer my specific question. When I walk into a store looking at a variety of phone wallets and bumper cases, they are all using a list of models of iphone 6..14 , and I don't readily know what SE means in all of that. I'm missing some key marketing education that will help me navigate here.

I believed the phone was a iPhone 13, but now I'm noticing it says it's a SE, and in small text I think I read 3rd generation? Does that make sense, is it really a 14?

Is there an explainer that helps customers to buy accessories that bring them joy?

Perhaps, but I can't find it. Maybe another user could help on that.

Our suggestion is simple. Buy a case for an SE 3rd Generation from Apple and you will have a case for an SE 3rd Generation phone.

Don't worry about whether an SE 3rd Generation is similar to another iPhone.

Hmm. I'm not a "iphone person" so this still is not clear to me - so apple have a system of numbers and of letters that don't always run sequentially? Is that it? I always understood that the XR was really an iphone 6, I guess I was wrong on that too.

If someone is selling iphone cases and I have an SE, which case shall I buy from them if the only SE thing they list is "iphone SE2020" - which according to the spec sheet iPhone SE (3rd generation) - Technical Specifications is incorrect, since the SE was released in 2022? Notwithstanding the problems when 3rd parties are not licensing the apple specs. Is there an explainer that helps customers to buy accessories that bring them joy?

Etsy (I'm not sharing a link, don't want to promote) have some really good personalized offerings. I was helping them upgrade from an old iphone 5 if you can believe that. And hence looking for a very specific look. I normally take weeks to buy anything online for myself, but for a friend, I'm wanting to be quicker.

At least the phone dimensions are clearly the way to work it out so it's possible to work out what is what by comparing now. Cheers.
