IOS16 Recently Deleted Face Unlock Required

I noticed that IOS16 adds the feature of requiring faceid unlock to access the recently deleted folder. Is this feature turned on automatically, or will I have to turn this feature on the settings app (Photos)

The iPhone user guide is stating that the Hidden album and the Recently Deleted album are locked by default. You will have to disable the lock to access both albums freely: Delete or hide photos and videos on iPhone - Apple Support

"Unlock Recently Deleted and Hidden albums

The Recently Deleted and Hidden albums are locked by default. You unlock these albums using your iPhone authentication method—Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode.

To change the default setting from locked to unlocked, go to Settings  > Photos, then turn off Use Passcode."
