I am unable to "quit" Mail and I can't get latest update because "Mail" is "interrupting it"? Anyone know what I can do to fix this??

Have you tried turning off your computer, then turning it back on and trying again? If that doesn't work, try starting in Safe Mode, then reboot and try again.
