Cannot turn on touch ID on iMac

Touch ID stopped working for me to unlock my iMac on my wireless keyboard. I made sure that the imac is updated. The keyboard is charged. I went into system preferences and saw that Touch ID was turned off in system settings. It won't allow me to toggle it on?

iMac 27″, macOS 10.15

According to your signature you have a 27" iMac which never supported Touch ID. If you actually have a 24" M1 iMac, try turning the keyboard off then on.

Only M1 based iMacs support Apple ID. If this is what you own and Touch ID is not working please click Use Touch ID on Mac
