backup drive permissions have changed

Had a power outage. Time Machine began saying it could not connect to the backup drive (possibly permissions changed). I unmounted the drive and now can't get it to remount (possibly those pesky permissions again).

Mac mini, macOS 13.4

I would delete this question if I could, as it's resolved. I was able to get Disk Utility to Erase, then after a wait, I deleted the drive from Time Machine, and then added it back. The full backup is running now.
