This symbol means that your Mac has tried to start up from internet recovery, but it couldn't

Please follow these steps to see if you can fix this issue from this apple support article: If you can't start up from macOS Recovery – Apple Support (UK)

  • Make sure your Mac can connect to the internet. If you're not asked to choose a Wi-Fi network during the startup process, choose a network from the Wi-Fi menu , if available.
  • Press Command-R at startup to try using the built-in Recovery system instead of internet Recovery.
  • Connect to the internet using Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi, or vice versa.
  • Connect to the internet from a different Wi-Fi or Ethernet network. Your network configuration may not allow the internet access that macOS Recovery needs.
  • Try again later, because it may be a temporary issue.
  • Start up from another disk or volume, if available, or use a bootable installer to reinstall macOS.

You can also try and press Option-Command-R or Shift-Option-Command-R during the startup process

Troubleshooting Booting into Recovery Mode:

Keys Improperly Working:

Sometimes changes(i.e. formats) are made to the system and then settings (i.e. for Keyboard) become manipulated, technically.  So, reset both on your Mac. Perhaps the keyboard's settings for it keys are mingled. It might take upto three tries to reset both. So, be certain you have the time to do so.

  • Enter Using An External Keyboard:

If using the builtin keyboard does not work properly for entering the password, then use an external keyboard so do so. It doesn't have to be Apple brand. You might need this adapter: USB-C to USB A Adapter - Apple
