My Apple Watch SE overheated while I was wearing it, and now will not charge. Why?

Red thermometer displayed then green circuit display and now will not charge.

Red lightening is power reserve (battery totally drained) If you are certain the charger is working on ship's power and you charged it for 3 hours with no remedy, then it again points to hardware fail.
